Who is above a sergeant?
There are 13 enlisted Army ranks: private, private second class, private first class, specialist, corporal, sergeant, staff sergeant, sergeant first class, master sergeant, first sergeant, sergeant major, command sergeant major and sergeant major of the Army.
What rank is below captain?
In the British Army and in the United States Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps, a second lieutenant is the lowest ranking commissioned officer. Above him in those U.S. services comes a first lieutenant—lieutenant in the British Army—and then a captain. In the Russian Army there is still another rank, senior lieutenant.
What are Army ranks in order?
The sequence of ranks for Enlisted Soldiers are as follows:

Do you call a sergeant sir?
For example, it is appropriate to say “Sergeant Major” or “Sergeant” when speaking directly to that individual. Referring to an officer as “Captain”, “Major”, or “Colonel” is not correct. The correct term when speaking to an officer without using his/her last name is “Sir” or “Ma’am”.
Is captain a high rank?
Captain, a rank in the military and maritime service, and the highest-ranking company officer. In the British and U.S. navies the rank corresponds to the army rank of colonel, as does group captain in the Royal Air Force.
